Richard D. Bittle, 77, of Muhlenberg Township, died April 10, 2024 at Laurel Center, Tilden Township.
He was the loving husband of Patricia (May) Bittle, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.
Born February 15, 1947, he was a son of the late Leonard F. and Emma C. (Sinton) Bittle.
Richard was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School.
He was employed with Carpenter Technology for 30 years, retiring in 2009.
Richard served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Reading.
Richard was a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, as well as assistant council commissioner; he served on the PTA for Riverside Elementary School, Reading; he was a member of the United Way of Berks County, Vietnam Vets of America, Post 131; American Legion Post 0635 (Shillington); and Mobile Riverine Force Association.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Patricia, are his two sons: Matthew J. Bittle of Reading; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Bittle; and Mark J. Bittle, husband of Janelle of Sinking Spring; his stepdaughter, Catherine E. Humphreys, wife of John of Shartlesville; and his four grandchildren: Breena Bittle, Donald Moyer, Sean Geltz, and Hayli Geltz.
Also surviving is his sister, Lynn A. Mingrone of Douglassville.
Richard was preceded in death by his stepson, Jamie D. Williams.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 15th at 11 a.m. at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale.
Viewings will be held Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Monday morning from 10-11 in the funeral home. Burial will be at Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
